Miranda Kalaskey, DDS

Being a pediatric dentist has always been a dream of mine, as I am extremely passionate about children’s oral health. I love working with children and treat each visit as an opportunity to positively impact the way children view visiting the dentist. My goal is for each child to arrive eager to their dental visit and stay motivated about their oral hygiene once they return home!

I truly believe that children represent the best aspects of our world. Their sweet smiles motivate me to keep working hard and staying up to date on the latest advancements in pediatric dentistry. My favorite part of dentistry is prevention; I love giving oral health tips and tricks so that everyone can learn to prevent new cavities from forming!

Although I enjoy teaching children about dentistry, I find myself learning so much from them as well. Their creativity and enthusiasm motivates me to stay up to date on the latest children’s movies, shows, and trends. As a Disney annual passholder, I love exploring and embracing the culture so many of our children enjoy.

As the oldest of six children, I found myself acting as a second mother figure to my younger siblings. This often included tasks such as brushing and flossing their teeth before bed. Even at a young age, I knew pediatric dentistry was my calling. While they are now much older, they still brag to me about their clean checks up from their dental visits. I greatly value my family time and love having my large family come together for vacations and the holidays.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Doctorate of Dental Surgery – West Virginia University
  • Certificate in General Practice Dentistry- Helen Hayes Hospital, NY
  • Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry – East Carolina University

I was born and raised in West Virginia and graduated from West Virginia University School of Dentistry with my Doctorate of Dental Surgery. I then traveled to New York to complete a General Practice Residency (GPR) working with special needs and medically complex patients. I absolutely loved working with this patient population and it allowed me to learn advanced behavior management techniques. This experience helped me develop key skills needed to treat patients that may be fearful or concerned about seeing the dentist. Finally, I moved to Greenville, NC and spent two years completing a Pediatric Dental Residency. I graduated from East Carolina School of Dental Medicine with a certificate in Pediatric Dentistry.

CONTINUING EDUCATION

I love learning! I always enjoy going to CE courses as I am able to keep up to date with the newest technology and dental materials. Dentistry is always changing and in order to deliver the best patient care I feel the need to keep up to date with all the latest advancements. A perk of attending CE meetings is that I am able to interact with colleagues and discuss complex treatment plans. At a recent AAPD meeting in San Diego, I was able to take a trip to the Zoo with four other pediatric dentists! I am also a huge animal lover so this was the perfect icing on the cake to a great meeting!

OUTSIDE THE OFFICE

Although originally from West Virginia, I have enjoyed my time so far in North Carolina. Personally, I have felt right at home since moving here several years ago, as I feel that both states are beautiful, with wonderful people, and great outdoor adventures to explore. I also enjoy cooking, baking and trying new restaurants with my boyfriend, Steven.
